Happy Friday! Thank you for joining me this week as I read through Psalm 139.
“O God, if only you would destroy the wicked!
Get out of my life, you murderers!
They blaspheme you;
your enemies misuse your name.
O Lord, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you?
Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you?
Yes, I hate them with total hatred,
for your enemies are my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalm 139:19-24 NLT
Have you been tested by attitudes, lied on, talked about, mistreated and more? Well, welcome to the club, however while you are in this exclusive club, don’t let someone’s thoughts toward you leave you in despair. Believe me, the Lord will fight for you and His plan will prevail. Jesus said, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also…” John 15:18-25 NLT
If we asked the Lord to examine our hearts today, what would he find? ______
Where do you need his help today? ______
Lord, you are a God of love and justice.
Father God, you are gracious, merciful and all-knowing. You know every inch of our heart, every pain we have encountered, every thought of ours that is not pleasing, and every excuse we make when we don’t follow your lead. Lord, call to our attention the things in our hearts that do not please you. Open our blind eyes so that we may see and soften our hearts for you to change us. Lord, we want you to lead us. Give us discernment as we seek to follow you and share your truth with others. Lord, help us to distinguish the difference between your enemies and your children who are simply lost – don’t understand your word/truth, but want to/need to know you more. Lord, make us bold for you and humble enough to be lead by you. Change us, Lord – we want to be more like you. In Jesus name, Amen.
Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
