Happy Monday! “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal. You know that afterward, when he wanted his father’s blessing, he was rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears.” Hebrews 12:14-17 NLT
My imperfection. One of the greatest weaknesses to my witness is functioning without the appropriate amount of rest. Gradually, my verbal filter begins to get clogged up by everything I see in the flesh instead of what I see as a vessel for Christ. I thank God, that the Holy Spirit quickly convicts me, then prompts me to apologize to the person I offended and ask the Lord for forgiveness. It is also a time when I’m reminded to rest and that the Lord gives us rest. In stressful times, I know I must find time to pull back from the world, rest at the feet of Jesus and be restored.
What are you struggling with? What do you need to give to God to help you live in peace with everyone? What root of bitterness do you need the Lord to uproot from your heart?
Father God, we thank you for waking us up this morning! We thank you for your word that directs our behavior and reminds us of our need to display a Christ-like attitude. Lord, forgive us for falling short of displaying Christ like behavior. Forgive us for leaning on our own understanding and emotions instead of leaning on you. Lord, help us to stand on your word. Lord, help us to hold our tongue when our words will not bring glory to you. However, help us to speak truth in love and be bold in your word and purpose for our lives. Lord, help us to see the plots of the enemy and give us wisdom in our hearts and minds to remain focused on you. Help us not to give in, but to stand in faith believing your promises are true and that you will see us through. Lord, be with us as we begin a new work and/or school week. Lord, be with the families who have experienced loss and devastation. In Jesus name, Amen!
