Happy Friday. While looking for a verse in 2 Corinthians, I came across one of my old post from 2019. I began to read the devotion and thought I need to reshare this post. I think this old post is relevant while we are in this season of prayer. Enjoy today’s re-post and may the Lord bless your weekend.

Good morning! Earlier this week we covered the spiritual gift of wisdom and knowledge. Today we will cover the spiritual gift of faith. Knowing this is my strongest gift right now, I’m excited to cover this gift. Join me as we continue to read 1 Corinthians, chapter 12, verses 7-11.

“⁷A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. ⁸ To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice[b]; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.[c]⁹ The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. ¹⁰ He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages,[d] while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. ¹¹ It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.” 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 NLT

Paul shares in these verses that “the same spirit gives great faith“. It’s not ordinary faith, but great faith. It is afaith that expresses the ability to trust God beyond what is lived out by most Christians.

The spiritual gifts assessment describes the gift of faith as, “The divine strength or ability to believe in God for unseen supernatural results in various arenas of life. Acts 11:22-24; Romams 4:18-21; 1 Corinthians 12:9; Hebrews 11.”

Sisters and brothers, anyone can have faith. They have faith that the sun will rise in the morning and that the sun will set at night. They believe that when they go to work in the morning, that they will be paid for the services rendered. However, the type of faith that Paul is talking about goes beyond ordinary faith, beyond the faith of knowing we are saved by grace. It is the powerful understanding that no matter what comes our way, in spite of disappointments, broken trust, loss of control over situations that God is already aware of the circumstances and is more than capable of working it out for the good of those who love Him (refer to Romans 8:28). He desires for us to trust Him beyond what we can see. To trust Him when things don’t add up or make since. To trust His word using the wisdom and knowledge that only He can give.

• What are you struggling with trusting God with today? (Is it your marriage? Is it your child? Is it your job? Is it your grief? Is it your loneliness? Is it your illness?)

• Are you willing to take the next step in trust God in that situation?

If so, pray to God and ask Him to help you to have insurmountable faith in that area of your life. Then be attuned to what He says and be obedient to His direction.

Sisters and brothers, in most cases great faith doesn’t happen overnight. It is a process of trusting God over and over again, even when we don’t see the results through our limited human eyes. It’s one day at a time or even one breath at a time.

Father God, thank you for being faithful when we weren’t faithful. Thank you for being the One we could trust, when we couldn’t trust anyone else. Lord, you are always with us, through thick and thin, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, when our faith is weak and when we felt we made it through the hills and valleys. Lord, you have been consistent when nothing else was. Lord, we are grateful for your love toward us. Lord, we want to experience and maintain great faith in you. Lord, we want to live in freedom from fear of the unknown and live expectantly in you. Lord, we trust you. Lord, equip us with the gift of great faith. Pour it out on us and help us to walk in full obedience to what you are calling us to or where you are calling us to go. Lord, change us. In Jesus name, amen.
