Good morning! Today, we will continue our reading in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 with Apostle Paul instructing the believers to show love. Enjoy today’s devotion.
Bible verse – 1 Thessalonians 4:9-12 NLT
9 But we don’t need to write to you about the importance of loving each other, for God himself has taught you to love one another. 10 Indeed, you already show your love for all the believers throughout Macedonia. Even so, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you to love them even more.
11 Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. 12 Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.
Reflection
In these verses, Apostle Paul urged the Thessalonian believers to love more, to make a goal of living a quiet life, etc., so that non-believers will respect the way they live.
One of the most used words in the month of February is love. Love is commercialized and sometimes misused. As a believer,
• If you were to show more love to believers what would that look like?
• If you were to show love to someone who is blind or a non-believer what would that look like?
As a believer, the way that we live is a reflection of Christ and the church to others. While people may not believe other people are watching. What will they see in you or hear? Will they feel the love of Christ and the love He has shown you?
Sisters and brothers, we are all growing in the faith. We are all taking steps to make progress as Christians. Let us continue to show love – more love to believers and non-believers. Let us live a life where non-believers will see us or hear and know that Christ lives within us.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for your love toward us. Thank you for your continuous care and desire for us to mature in our faith and relationship with you. Thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to save us and reconcile us back to you. Lord, thank you for opening our eyes so that we can see what true love looks like. Thank you for stretching us and for teaching us to love others and to pray for others even when we do not want to. Thank you for humbling our heart and our spirit to see at one point and even sometimes today that we haven’t done anything to deserve the love you graciously give. Lord, we repent from our ways and ask that you help us to love the “unlovable” and pray for even those who do not believe or walk in Your truth. Lord, our nation needs more people who love and care. Lord, we ask that you soften the hardened hearts, remove hate, racism and violence from this world, nothing is too hard or impossible for you. Lord, we pray for all those who are grieving behind acts of violence, hate and selfishness. Lord, we pray for unity. We pray for those who are heartbroken and need you today. Lord, comfort us all. Heal our nation and our homes. Guide our leaders. Awaken the church to be more like the Thessalonian church. Lord, guide us and direct our steps today. Give us Your strength, discernment and wisdom as we make decisions, have conversations, and go about our day. Help us to love others as you love us. In Jesus name, amen.
