Good morning! Today’s title reminds me of the Chase Sapphire credit card commercial tag line “What’s In Your Wallet?” The idea that you can go anywhere and get anything with the card, according to the commercial, should bring the consumer a sense of peace. However, as believers we know that our perfect peace comes from the Lord. Today we will read about the gifts that the Lord provides. Gifts we can use anywhere and for anything. Join me as we continue in 1 Peter chapter 4.
BIBLE VERSE – 1 Peter 4:10-11 NLT
“10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.”
REFLECTION
God has given us many gifts, but sometimes we hold onto them in our wallets, purses, hearts and minds. We are afraid to release the things God has gifted us with because we are afraid of what others will think, or how much it will cost (e.g., financial or in time). He gives us the gift of wisdom and knowledge for any situation, and so much more. Sisters and brothers don’t be selfish with the gifts God has given you. Use your spiritual gifts to enhance the kingdom and to make a difference in your life and lives of others.
• What spiritual gift(s) do you possess? _________
• How do you plan to use it/them today or this year? __________
If you don’t know what God has gifted within you, pray about it and ask him to show you. Keep praying about it until He reveals it to you. Also, some churches and Christian bookstores offer classes and/or materials on spiritual gifts. Look around, there are ample opportunities to use your spiritual gifts. Are you ready?
PRAYER
Father God, we thank you for bestowing upon us gifts that we know of and gifts that we are still waiting to be revealed. Lord, forgive us for being selfish with the gifts you have given us. Lord, we don’t want them to grow dormant any longer. Lord, make us bold and give us the discernment and opportunities to use our gifts. Lord, we lift up those who do not know what their gifts are, yet they desire to use their gifts to serve you and others. Lord, direct our steps and align our will to yours. Lord, use our gifts to increase our faith in you. Use our gifts to encourage others. Use our gifts to equip the church, comfort the orphans and widows, the sick and dying, the homeless and the hungry, the broken and lost. May the use of our gifts bring you glory each day. Lord, God we pray for pastors who are leading and planting churches in your name. Lord, equip them to care for the flock that you entrusted to them. Give them strength and courage to be as bold as the Apostle Paul and Peter. Lord, we pray for those who are terminally ill. Lord, comfort them and give them peace as they prepare to join you and temporarily leave behind their family. Lord, comfort our dear sister in the faith whose son has been placed on hospice. Lord, you know her heart and the pain she is feeling as she prepares to say goodbye/see you later to the son you gave her to raise and love. Lord, hold her and touch her. Lord, be with his wife and kids, and help them through these final days. Lord, only your comfort and peace will sustain them – sustain them Lord. In Jesus amen.
