Good morning! Have you ever had a discussion where someone pointed out what could be done better or how you need to make adjustments? How did you feel about that? Were you willing or able to make adjustments? Maybe not on your own, but as we read last week and yesterday the Holy Spirit can help us to change. As a recap, we discussed how our behavior should be, we discussed our behavior as citizens, as workers and as women/wives. Today, we will discuss the behaviors of husbands. Join me as we continue in 1 Peter chapter 3.
BIBLE VERSE – 1 Peter 3:7 NLT
“7 In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.”
KEY POINTS
Peter shares, husbands:
• Be respectful/loving – must give honor to wives.
• Be considerate – treat wives with understanding.
• Wives are equal partners in God’s gift of new life (salvation).
REFLECTION
Brothers in faith, these verses and Ephesians 5:28-30 call you to live above what the world tells you to do in your marriage. God has called you to be godly men who honor him first and to love your wife as he loves the church.
Things to ponder:
• Are you loving your wife as Christ loves the church?
• Are you honoring your wife?
• Are you treating her with understanding?
• Are you treating her with understanding?
I don’t know what is going on in your marriage or in your life, but the Lord does. He knows the difficulties and frustrations you may have encountered, and He also knows the great reward of loving someone to death. As you seek the Lord to work in your marriage, pray for and/or with your wife. Allow her to see Christ in you, especially the characteristics of love and respect, and watch the Lord work everything out.
If you are lacking in any of the bulleted areas, call on the name of the Lord to help you, it’s not too late. Ask the Lord to heal, transform and lead you.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for today’s word. Thank you for leading both women and men (husband & wife) in the way we should behave. Lord, you know that we are far from perfect, but you continue to have mercy on us, teaching us how to improve and be transformed into who you called us to be. Lord, we lift up husbands and men throughout the world today and ask that you give them clarity of mind, humbleness in spirit and faithful dependence on you. Lord, speak to their hearts so that your words will flow from their lips. Lord, direct them to godly men who seek you first in their decisions and actions, and who will encourage them in their faith and marriage. Lord, help them to understand the choices and consequences of their decisions, and lead them to wisdom and discernment. Lord, strengthen the men who are married to consult with you on how to lead their home, to honor and love their wives, to love their children and bring honor to you. Lord, direct their steps as Christians to treat their wives as equal partners in God’s gift of new life. Lord, our men have a lot on their minds, many struggle in secret, others act out in other ways, but Lord you know their names and we ask for you to cover them and protect them from the attacks of the enemy on their lives, marriages, jobs and families. Lord, bring forth other Christian men who are true and genuine in the faith to come alongside them and encourage them in faith. Lord, refresh and renew their relationship with you daily. Continue to change our men across the world to be more like you. Lord, I would be remiss if I failed to pray for wives too. Lord, I ask that you continue to work within the hearts of wives as you work on their husbands. Help them to lead with love and respect in their conversations and in their body language. Lord, help wives to bring honor to you in the way that they care for their homes. Lord, bridge the gap in marriages, end abusive situations, and protect them from harm and from harming others.
In Jesus name, amen.
