Good morning! There are 357 days left in the year. God has blessed us to see and experience the first nine and he has kept us. He will be with us today.

Bible Verse- Matthew 8:23 – 27 NLT

“²³ Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. ²⁴ Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. ²⁵ The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

²⁶ Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

²⁷ The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”

Reflection

Sisters and brothers we are often in the process of doing something and simply pushing through. Sometimes it as routine as brushing our teeth and other times it is chaotic with everything challenging our peace. However, what we do know is that Jesus can calm any storm. He makes the wind and the waves obey.

Can you imagine what life would look like if the wind and waves failed to obey?

Prayer

Father God we thank you for your love and grace toward us. Lord, we thank for your power over everything. With all the power you have you still love us and give us a choice to love you back. Lord, that speaks volumes about your love for us. You comfort and care for us in so many ways and yet, in our disobedience you sent Jesus to save us. When we are disobedient today, your Holy Spirit speaks to us and guides us back into obedience. Lord, your love is amazing and we praise you for not letting anything separate us from God’s love.

Lord, today we want to live in obedience to your word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Lord, we know that our works are worthless, but in our heart we desire to serve you and give you glory just because we love you and you have been so good to us. We can never repay the debt of our sins – but we thank you for Jesus who paid the ultimate price for our sins and our freedom. Thank you. Thank you. Lord, all glory and honor is to you.

Lord, forgive us of our sins (known and unknown). Forgive us from times we turned away from you or was frightened by the storms and challenges of this life. Lord, we believe that you can calm any storm and any situation in our lives. Lord we turn over our worries and burdens to you, we turn over the:

• medical – diagnosis, chronic condition, the mystery illness, cold, flu, RSV, cancer, chemo treatments, diabetes, weight gain/loss, blood circulation, blood clots, migraines, visual impairments, back aches/pain, heart condition, thyroid, liver, cognitive issues, MS, ear pain, GI track complications, kidney, hot flashes, etc.
• financial – job challenges, budgets, the price of food, gas, and other expenses that have increased. The new home purchase or desire to purchase. Rents or leases. Unexpected and expected expenses. The cost of medical and prescriptions. The need to have our income match or exceed our bills and life expenses.
• spiritual – help us to make time to draw closer to you. Remove distractions, our pride, any confusion, our disobedience, and bitterness.

Lord, thank you for taking on the burdens we listed above and the ones we did not mention. Lord, calm the storms that are raging around us (e.g., flooding, snow, high tides/waves, tornados and tornado warnings) and the ones inside of us… cause them to cease in Jesus ‘ name. Lord, let Your peace overflow and help us to feel Your Spirit working in and through us. May your peace overflow so that others will benefit from it as well. Lord, we declare that it is well with our soul only because of who you are and our ability to trust you. Keep working in us in Jesus name, amen.
