Good morning! Today we will continue to explore the scriptures in search of the word grace.
Bible Verse: John 1: 14-16 NLT
“14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
15 John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’”
16 From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.”
Devotion
In verse 16, the author writes “From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.” That means it is not the work we do or do not do, it is from Christ abundance that we receive grace. Not only do we receive grace, but we receive grace upon grace. It is an unending supply of grace, before it runs out we are given it again.
Jerry Bridges a well known Christian author once wrote, “You and I actually experience the grace of God in our lives far more than we realize. But all too often we do not enjoy His grace because we are trying to live by merit, not by grace. In looking for our own goodness by which we hope to earn the blessing of God, we fail to see the superabundance of the goodness and grace of God in our lives.”
Sisters and brothers, God’s grace offers us forgiveness of our sins through faith in Christ Jesus. It is nothing that we have done or deserve. Yet, He loves us so much He gives us grace upon grace. Let His grace abound as He transforms us daily.
Prayer
God thank you for your abundance of grace. Your grace upon grace is undeserved, but we are so grateful for it. Thank you for sending your son Jesus to save us and reconcile us back to you. Lord, we believe that it is through Christ Jesus that our sins have been forgiven and that it is not through our own works.
Lord, as you continue to pour out your grace, continue to grow us in faith. Continue to stretch our understanding of who you are and what you have done for us. Continue to rid us of false traditions that would have us to believe our works is what saves us. Lord, we know it is only by your grace that we can be saved, restored, humble, free from the bondage of sin, and made whole in you. Lord, continue to transform us and change our hearts to reflect you.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen!
