Opposition

Happy Friday! Over the last few months we read or heard about people who were in opposition to medical reports, stay at home orders, face coverings/mask, and more. It has been so disturbing at times that it shifted our peace. In the Bible we have also read about people in opposition to the faith. Join me today as we continue our reading in Acts. Enjoy today’s reading and your weekend.

Bible verse

But some of the Jews were jealous, so they gathered some troublemakers from the marketplace to form a mob and start a riot. They attacked the home of Jason, searching for Paul and Silas so they could drag them out to the crowd.[b] Not finding them there, they dragged out Jason and some of the other believers[c] instead and took them before the city council. “Paul and Silas have caused trouble all over the world,” they shouted, “and now they are here disturbing our city, too. And Jason has welcomed them into his home. They are all guilty of treason against Caesar, for they profess allegiance to another king, named Jesus.”

The people of the city, as well as the city council, were thrown into turmoil by these reports. So the officials forced Jason and the other believers to post bond, and then they released them.” – Acts 17:5-9 NLT

Reflection

Yesterday, we read on Paul’s and Silas’ success in Thessalonica. Many believed. However, now we read there were others who didn’t believe and created chaos.

What we’ve learned from the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) through the book of Acts is that there will always be naysayers, trouble makers, and those who don’t believe. But don’t be discouraged, the Bible reminds us that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus is Lord.

Sisters and brothers, no matter what opposition you are facing today or the days ahead, remember the Lord is with you. When people attempt to undermine the Bible, keep believing and share the Good News with others. When people try to discredit you remember the Lord is by your side. Don’t let them shift your peace.

Stay Focused. Keep trusting. Keep believing.

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for being with us this week. Thank you for the Good News that reconciles us back to God. It is a tremendous blessing to know that you will never leave or forsake us. Lord, continue to equip us and change us. Be with those who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and bring healing to their bodies. Lord, increase the care of those who have limited means and health care. Be our strength and refuge today and throughout the weekend. In Jesus name, amen.
