By Faith – Righteous and Pleasing

Good morning! Hebrews chapter 11 is the most referred to resources on faith. When we read verses 1-3, we learned faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. This week will continue to revisit our post on faith from August 2017.

It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by his example of faith. It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.” For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God.
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” Hebrews 11:4-6 NLT

Abel and Enoch were recognized for their faith, one because he was a righteous man and the other because he pleased God.

The word says, “anyone wants to come to him must believe that God exists.” Sisters and brothers do you believe? ______

The word also states, “God rewards those who sincerely seek him?” Sisters and brothers, when was the last time that you sincerely sought out God? _____ I’m not talking about a quick prayer (which also a way to talk with God), but some intimate time before the Lord – open, honest, heart wrenching time. The type of time that penetrates the heart and transforms your total being (e.g., spirit, mind, emotional state).

If it has been a while, take sometime this week to sincerely seek God. Whether you seek him in prayer, in quiet time reading his word for yourself, attending a church service or watching one on tv or on the internet, seek him.

Dear Lord, we know that you know we aren’t perfect. We also know that you know we are all a work in progress. While all that is true, Lord, we thank you for your grace and mercy that gives us an opportunity to accept you into our hearts and minds, and for your willingness to transform us into righteous and pleasing children of God who have faith in you. Lord, continue your work in and through us. Help us when our faith is weak. Touch our tongues and our hands so that whatever we say or do will be pleasing to you. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep seeking God’s truth! Keep trusting God’s word! Keep praying!
