Our Heart

Good morning! “That is why the Holy Spirit says, “Today when you hear his voice,

don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested me in the wilderness.
There your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw my miracles for forty years.
10 So I was angry with them, and I said, ‘Their hearts always turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’
11 So in my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.’”

12 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.” Hebrews 3:7-12 NLT.

Have you ever struggled to remain consistent with the reading of God’s word? Have you every struggled with the pain of having faith and then things didn’t work out as you planned? Have you ever thought living a Christian life was too difficult and decided to live your life like everyone else in the world? Maybe not as wicked as the whole world, but free from the guidance of the Holy Spirit? Well so did Israel. Israel decided it was easier to follow their own way instead of living in obedience to the God.

Today the writer reminds us to examine our hearts. To be mindful that we may have a tendency to allow evil and unbelieving thoughts to turn us away from God.

What are you allowing to take the place of God? What are you allowing to slowly turn you away from God?

Dear Lord God, thank you for this reminder. Thank you for another opportunity to repent/turn away from our sin and follow you with our whole heart. Lord in our struggle for comfort and peace in our lives, help us to be mindful of who you are. Help us to trust your plans even when we don’t understand all the details. Soften our hearts toward you and fill us to capacity with your holy presence in us. Lord thank you for your patience with us – don’t give up on us. Cover us with your protection and give us favor as we seek to do your will. Shield us from the attacks of the enemy and build up our faith. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!

Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
