Remain in Him

Happy Friday!

So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us. I am writing these things to warn you about those who want to lead you astray. But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.” 1 John 2:24-27 NLT

This weekend, think about how you can spend more time with the Lord. Will you set an appointment time on your phone? Will you turn off the TV and spend time with the Lord?

How will you remain in fellowship with Christ this weekend? _____

Father God,  thank you for caring for us this week. Lord, you didn’t have to wake us this morning, but you did. Lord, we desire to remain in you, create in us a clean heart, direct our thoughts and motives. Lord, guide our feet/hands/eyes and our speech so that we may do what is pleasing in your eyes.

Lord, fill us with your Holy Spirit and may our actions resemble a life that is in you. Lord, be with the people in California who have been affected by the fires. Lord, protect and heal the lungs of those around the fires. Lord, protect the first responders from the flames and smoke. Lord, be with the people who have lost their homes and possessions – comfort them and help them find shelter. Lord, be with the people in the southern US as they prepare for snow. Lord, keep them warm and the roads safe. Lord, be with other countries as they struggle with unrest, lack of food, natural disasters, etc., – Lord, you know the need, make provisions for the weak, innocent and defenseless.  Lord, continue to teach us how to remain in you. Continue to change us. In Jesus name, amen!

Who is a Liar

Happy Thursday!

Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come. These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us. But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit, and all of you know the truthSo I am writing to you not because you don’t know the truth but because you know the difference between truth and lies. And who is a liar? Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ. Anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist. Anyone who denies the Son doesn’t have the Father, either. But anyone who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” 1 John 2:18-23 NLT

Maybe you know people like the ones list above (liars/antichrist). Don’t lose heart, keep praying for non-believers to know and follow Christ. Keep following the truth.

Which non-believer will you pray for today? ________

Father God, thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ. Thank you for the truth and freedom you freely give. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that counsels and guides us. Thank you for letting us understand the difference between truth and lies. Lord, we often read, hear and see things and it is easy to distinguish the truth from a lie. Lord, other times “smoke and mirrors” capture our attention and before we know it the enemy clouds our ability to see the truth. Heavenly Father, we ask that you continue to expose the lies about who you are. Lord, unveil the eyes of non-believers so that they may know you and accept you as their Lord and Savior, and live a life in obedience to you. Lord, begin with non-believers in our families, in our immediate circles, in our schools, in churches, the workplace and the world. Lord, equip and prepare us for encounters with non-believers so that we may be true witnesses who are humble and bold. In Jesus name, Amen!

Make a Choice

Happy Wednesday!

“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” 1 John 2:15-17 NLT

Let me share a story.

Since early November I have been struggling with a decision to host a Bible study in my home. I’ve been prompted on several occasions to start a study and my response has been Lord, I hear you but where will I find the time between family, work, school, teaching, a non-profit, events, etc. One, night I heard the spirit so clear – start a Bible study and my answer was the same, Lord, where will I find the time. The very next day (6:43 am)  I received a text message from my daughter who is attending college out-of-state. She had no idea what I was struggling with thus decision but her text read, “You should lead a bible study series on the smaller books of the Bible that people don’t really know about. Mom, I know you have a lot going on with school, work, parenting, being a wife, and being a grandma, but I’m just being obedient lol.” I was in awe that the Lord used my daughter to send another message to me. That she was being obedient even when i was struggling to be.

However, as I continued to ponder on dates, materials, etc. I was offered a fabulous opportunity to sit on a major Board that would strengthen my career and teaching opportunities. I was excited about the opportunity, but i knew I had to make a choice – even if I gave something up, I would only have time for one. As much as I want to seek the Board opportunity I know the Lord is calling me to do something greater – something that may change lives, something that will last.

As you seek to put God first in your life, what are you being called to pursue for his kingdom? ______

What is keeping you from putting God first in your home, work, school, relationships, etc.? ______

This week, seek God’s wisdom and guidance in everything you do and each decision you need to make.

Lord, thank you for today.  Thank you for your love for us. Lord thank you for the gifts you have given us that allow us to accomplish and achieve goals. Lord, we want to put you first in every area of our lives. Lord, speak to us and guide us as we make decisions today. Lord, give us insight and wisdom to pursue the things that please you. Lord, help us to decipher the difference between our goals and desires versus what your plan and will is for our lives. Lord, give us peace as we make decisions based on our love for you and our desire to put you first. Lord, may our love for you be displayed in every area of our lives. In Jesus name, amen!

Who You Are and Why

Happy Tuesday! While this is a continuation of the reading, the writer of 1 John is reminding us of who we are and why. Enjoy reading.

“I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus. I am writing to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginningI am writing to you who are young in the faith because you have won your battle with the evil one.

I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father.
I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginningI have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.” 1 John 2:12-14NLT

Believe what these words say about who you are (e.g., you are strong, you have won your battle with the enemy) and why (e.g., because you know the father, because you know Christ, because your sins have been forgiven). Take a screenshot of the verses above and re-read it to yourself several times today. Let the words encourage and strengthen you and your faith.

Father God, we thank you for your goodness and mercy. Lord, you have been so gracious and merciful toward us. Lord, continue to direct our path and our thoughts as we go throughout this day. Direct our tongues to speak words of encouragement, peace, truth and love to one another. Lord, be with those who are struggling with finances – Lord, make provisions. Lord, be with those who are suffering with the loss of a loved one – Lord, comfort them and let them feel your presence today. Lord, touch the sick and chronically ill – Lord easy their pain and heal them. Lord, continue to work in and through us. Change us. In Jesus name, amen.

Don’t Be Blinded By Darkness

Happy Monday! Last week we were challenged to ask God to soften our hearts and to pray for those who are difficult to love. Today’s verses continue with living in the light.

If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness. Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble. But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.” 1 John 2:9-11 NLT

Father God, we thank you for exposing our weaknesses. Thank you for another opportunity for us to understand that you want us to live in the light. Lord, continue to work in us – soften our hearts, direct our thoughts in this area. Lord, help us to see where we fall short of loving our fellow believers and continue to change us. Lord, as we prepare for this day, help us to be a light in darkness. Strengthen our faith and remove all obstacles that hinder us from loving others. Lord, make us more like you. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
