The Guest Arrived

Good morning! Yesterday, we began the parable of the Wedding Feast. There were many invitations sent out by various messengers, but no one accepted the invitation. In fact, some of the invited guests killed the messengers/servants. Join me today  as we continue reading in Matthew 22.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 22:7-14 NLT

“The king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town. 8 And he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren’t worthy of the honor. Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.’ 10 So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike, and the banquet hall was filled with guests.

11 “But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. 12 ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply. 13 Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.””

RE-CAP
Wow. “For many are called, but few are chosen.” I don’t know how you read these verses, but what I read…I know God is not playing.

  • The king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town. v.7
    • Yet, he extended the invitation to everyone  – both good and bad to share in the banquet. v.10
  • ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ v.13
    • God knows the heart of man…He will not be fooled.

REFLECTION
God is a faithful, merciful, and just God. He sent His son Jesus Christ, because He loves us and desires to be in relationship with us. However, He is just and He can’t be fooled.

The religious leaders of the day, thought they knew it all. They knew all the scriptures and rules of the religion, but they didn’t know God. They went to all the temple services, observed the Sabbath and still they didn’t recognize Jesus (the son of God). They rejected him and plotted to kill him and eventually, he was prosecuted under Pontus Pilot (which we will read about in upcoming weeks) and hung on a cross. Jesus died, was buried and on the third day he arose from the grave. He conquered sin and death. The perfect sacrifice, made a way for our sins to be forgiven so that we can be reconciled with the Father.

Brothers and sisters, don’t take these verses or the words in the Bible lightly.  The word of God gives life.  The invitation is here. Will you follow Him?

Pray: Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, Lord forgive me of my sins, I believe you died on the cross for my sins and rose again so that I might be saved. Lord save me from eternal separation from God. I believe and accept You as my Savior and as Lord over my life. Thank you for providing a way for me. Thank you for making a way for me to have a personal relationship with You. Thank you for the free gift of eternal life. Lord, I choose to follow you all the days of my life. In Jesus name, amen.

PRAYER
Father God, thank you for today. Lord, thank you for your word that gives life. Lord, you have been so good to us. Lord, while we are in the world help us to bring your light to those who are in darkness. Lord, help us to see the lost, hurting and confused, and equip us to minister to their needs. Lord, we don’t want to leave this earth without having a personal relationship with you. Lord, we are tired of playing the game of life, we want to live it abundantly in you. Lord, help us to manage our time, help us to keep you first in all the things you are calling us to do.  Lord, use us and keep us attuned to what you desire of us.  Help us. Change us. In Jesus name, amen.
