Happy Wednesday! Today’s devotion begins in Matthew chapter 18. It starts with the disciples asking “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven”. Enjoy reading Jesus’ response and have a good day.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 18:1-6 NLT
” 1 About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”
2 Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. 3 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. 4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. 5 “And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalfis welcoming me. 6 But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
Reflection
One might say the disciples asked a good question, but what prompted their question proved their motives were wrong, and Jesus new it. Jesus did not down cast them he used the moment as a teaching opportunity. The disciples simply had their priorities wrong. They were focused on status instead of simply serving with a pure heart and caring for those in need.
Sisters and Brothers, greatness in the Kingdom is not based on work or words, but on childlike humility and faith. As we continue to seek the Lord with a pure heart, we will begin to further understand the heart of the Lord and his love for His children, especially the young and innocent.
Question:
Do you have children around you whom you have influence over?____ If so, how is you behavior or character pointing them to Christ? ____
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for your word today. Lord, forgive us for our sins (known and unknown) against you. Lord, help us to turn away from our sins so that those sins will no longer control us. Lord, we want to be humble like a child. Lord, help us to put our trust in you. Help us to seek you first. Lord, as we share your word with others, equip us to always lead them to you. Lord, cover us as we seek you and seek out the lost. Lord, be with us and remind us daily of your love for us. Lord, give us child like faith and surrendered heart. Help us to lead children to you and not away from you. In Jesus name, amen.
