Happy Wednesday! Every day is a new opportunity to draw closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus. Will today be that day for you? Please join me as we begin our devotion in Matthew 16.
Bible Verse – Matthew 16:1-4 NLT
“1 One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority. 2 He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow; 3 red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times! 4 Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Then Jesus left them and went away.”
REFLECTION
In the verses above we read the Pharisees are again asking the Lord for a sign, just as they did in Matthew 12:38. However, this time they were not alone, the Pharisees had the Sadducces with them (the spiritually blind leading the spiritually blind). Jesus rebuked their judgment and rejection of Him, by calling out their ability to read the weather, but couldn’t interpret the current time – His coming. They were the most religious group, but their hearts and minds were so far away from God that they couldn’t see God’s only Son in front of their face.
Brothers and sisters, Jesus is alive today. There is evidence all around us of His presence. However, sometimes we are so aware of other things that we forget the most important thing, which is the saving grace and mercy of Jesus. Seek the kingdom first. Trust Him!
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for your love toward us. Thank you for sending your son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so that we can be reconciled to you. Lord, thank you for the promises and hope that you offer us. Lord, you are our redeemer. Lord, when the enemy comes to try to destroy our love for you, our hope in you, our trust in you, please strengthen us Lord and continue to remind us of your truth, your love for us as evidenced on the cross, that our future is secure in you, that you alone control all things and will use everything for good. Lord, direct our steps and secure our footing so that we will stand firm on your promises. Lord, be with us today as we seek you and desire to draw closer to you. Lord, shield us today and prepare our hearts for the day ahead. We pray for the non-citizen of Ukraine who are trying to flee Ukraine and have no means or assistance to get to safety. We pray for those who have been rejected/denied opportunities to get to safety and are walking miles in the cold. Lord, please end the war on humanity. Lord, end division amongst people in our country and internationally. In Jesus name, amen.
