The Net is Wide

Happy Tuesday! Today is a new day. The Lord’s mercies are new today. May His presence be with you and may His peace comfort you throughout the day. Enjoy today’s devotion as we continue with another parable from Matthew 13.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 13:47-52 NLT
47 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a fishing net that was thrown into the water and caught fish of every kind. 48 When the net was full, they dragged it up onto the shore, sat down, and sorted the good fish into crates, but threw the bad ones away. 49 That is the way it will be at the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked people from the righteous, 50 throwing the wicked into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 51 Do you understand all these things?”

“Yes,” they said, “we do.”
52 Then he added, “Every teacher of religious law who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a homeowner who brings from his storeroom new gems of truth as well as old.””

REFLECTION
Here we read the fishing net was wide, just as the gospel message is sent out throughout the world. Many will hear the message and will be drawn in and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, while others will be among them (us) who hear the message but don’t receive it or believe it. While those who receive or deny the message appear to be alike, the day will come when the good and bad will be sorted and judged for all eternity.

However,  if you woke up this morning with air still in your lungs, it’s not too late for you, your family, friends and loved ones to believe and receive Jesus Christ as your/ their Lord and Savior. His redemption is offered freely. We only need to believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Romans 5:6-10 (NLT) says, 6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.

And Romans 10:9-10 promises, “9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”

If you believe this, pray: Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, I ask that you forgive me of my sins and save me from eternal separation from God. I believe and accept your death on the cross as payment for my sins. Through faith in You, I have eternal life. Amen.

PRAYER
Father God,  thank you for your gracious mercies that are new every day. Lord, thank you for your Son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins. Lord, forgive us for sins we knowingly and unknowingly committed. Lord, help us to turn away from our sins and return back to you and your ways. Lord, touch our mouths and speech – let our words be pleasing to you. Lord, touch our minds – let our thoughts be aligned to your will. Lord, clean our hearts – let them love like you love. Lord, change us and help us to be a good witness and follower of you. Lord, we pray for our loved ones who don’t know you or have turned away from you and ask that you lead them back to you. Lord, pour out your Holy Spirit into our lives, homes, workplace, schools and churches. Lord, cover us and equip us for the day ahead – no weapon against us will prosper. In Jesus name, amen!
