Happy Monday! So far, we have read five parables 1) the sower, 2) the wheat and the weeds, 3) the mustard seed, 4) the yeast and 5) the hidden treasure. Today we will read the parable of the pearl. Enjoy today’s devotion.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 13:45-46 NLT
“45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. 46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!”
KEY
Christ gave His life to provide redemption for the church.
REFLECTION
This parable is a powerful picture of Jesus’ redemption power. Jesus is the merchant and we are the choice pearls. Jesus came to earth to save you and me. He gave everything on the cross when he bore our sins so that we could be forgiven, set free and saved. Therefore, making a way for all who believe. If we believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, and on the third day he rose from the grave gaining victory over sin and death, and through our acceptance, belief and receiving Him as our Lord and Savior we have eternal life.
This picture also reminds me of Isaiah 35:3-10 (NLT) :
3 With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees.
4 Say to those with fearful hearts,“Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.”
5 And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blindand unplug the ears of the deaf.
6 The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy! Springs will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams will water the wasteland.
7 The parched ground will become a pool, and springs of water will satisfy the thirsty land.
Marsh grass and reeds and rushes will flourishwhere desert jackals once lived.
8 And a great road will go through that once deserted land. It will be named the Highway of Holiness. Evil-minded people will never travel on it. It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; fools will never walk there.
9 Lions will not lurk along its course, nor any other ferocious beasts. There will be no other dangers. Only the redeemed will walk on it.
10 Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return. They will enter Jerusalem singing, crowned with everlasting joy.
Sorrow and mourning will disappear, and they will be filled with joy and gladness.”
Sisters and brothers, let us continue to “strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees”.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. Lord, we didn’t deserve a Savior but you loved us so much that you sent your only Son to save us. Lord, He paid a debt He did not owe, but His love for us changed our trajectory – we deserve hell, but you offer us eternal life. Lord Jesus, thank you for loving us. Lord, forgive us of our sins and continue to work in our hearts and change us to be more like you. Lord, may your words penetrate our hearts and pour out of our tongues – so that others will see you in us. Lord, equip us and direct our steps in the name of Jesus. Lord, restore our hope and give us new life – renew us daily. Lord, thank you for answered prayers and Lord, thank you for an opportunity to continue to pray to you for the healing of the sick, restoration for the lost, renewal of relationships, and the opening of eyes that are closed and bringing hearing to the ears of the deaf. We continue in prayer for all these things in Jesus name, amen!
