Good morning! It is hard to be a people pleaser. They are often torn between doing what is best and doing what others want. In today’s devotion Jesus addresses the issue. May the Lord guide your thoughts and actions today as you trust His plan and purpose for your life. Enjoy today’s devotion.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 11:15-19 NLT
“15 Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!
16 “To what can I compare this generation? It is like children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends,
17 ‘We played wedding songs,
and you didn’t dance,
so we played funeral songs,
and you didn’t mourn.’
18 For John didn’t spend his time eating and drinking, and you say, ‘He’s possessed by a demon.’19 The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.””
REFLECTION
In these verse Jesus was clear, no matter what they (Jesus or John the Baptist) did the people were never satisfied or pleased. It was easier for them to complain than to seek the truth. It was easier to complain than surrender to the message of repentance and/or salvation. Yet, in the last verse, Jesus shares – in time the message from Jesus and John the Baptist to the people and the world will be proved right.
Therefore, brothers and sisters don’t attempt to please everyone because you can’t. Dont get pulled to the left or the right. Stay focused on God’s will for your life, be pleasing to Him and everything else will come together in time. Seek Him first. Share the gospel message. Pray for those who deny the truth. Pray for those who know and have accepted the truth.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for being our strength and protection. Thank you Lord for the spirit of a sound mind. Lord, we repent of our sins (known and unknown) and ask for forgiveness of our sins. Lord, help us when we are overwhelmed by the world, chaos and confusion, Lord, center our thoughts on you. Lord, teach us to look to you and not only on the things that are seen. Lord, open our spiritual eyes to see what you see. Soften our hearts to feel for people as you feel for them. Lord, give us wisdom and discernment as we surrender our thoughts, heart and lives to you. Lord, you know every need and want of each person reading this message. Lord, we ask that you hear their cries and prayers for you to change their situation or to sustain them mentally/financially/physically/spiritually. Lord, draw us near to you. Continue to change us in Jesus name, amen.
