Pick Up Your Mat

Good morning! I am praying that God will be active and alive in your heart today. May all of God’s grace and mercy overflow in your life. Have a wonderful day. Enjoy today’s devotion.

Bible Verse – Matthew 9:1-8 NLT
1 Jesus climbed into a boat and went back across the lake to his own town. Some people brought to him a paralyzed man on a mat. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Be encouraged, my child! Your sins are forgiven.”
But some of the teachers of religious law said to themselves, “That’s blasphemy! Does he think he’s God?”
Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’?So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”
And the man jumped up and went home! Fear swept through the crowd as they saw this happen. And they praised God for giving humans such authority.”

Reflection
There are several key points in these verses. Lets recap:

  • People had faith, and brought the paralyzed man to Jesus.
  • He forgave the sins of the paralyzed man.
  • Jesus has authority on earth to forgive sins.
  • Jesus knows the hearts of men/women.
  • Jesus healed the paralyzed man.
  • Jesus told the man, “stand up, pick up your mat, and go home.”
  • He (the man) jumped up and went home.
  • Fear swept through the crowd when they saw it happen. And they praised God for giving humans such authority.

Questions:

  • Do you have faith to bring your sickness, worry, condition and/or addiction to the feet of Jesus to be healed?
  • Do you have enough faith to bring others to Jesus so that they can be healed?
  • Are you willing and ready to pick up your mat?

Brothers and sisters because of Jesus our sins can be forgiven. Because of Jesus we can be healed and reconciled to God. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we can stand up, pick up our mats and be made whole. Brothers and sisters it’s time to live by the faith we believe. It’s time to put down the things that have us paralyzed and allow the saving grace of Jesus Christ to work in us.

Are you ready to pick up your mat and ask Jesus to forgive your sins?

The Bible says, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NLT

If you believe this, pray with me:

“Father God, thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to save us. Lord, we confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that Jesus Christ is your son, and that he died on the cross that we may be forgiven of our sins and have eternal life. Father God, we believe Jesus rose from the dead and we ask you to come into our lives to be our Lord and Savior. Father God, we repent of our sins and because your word is true we confess that we are born again believers, cleansed by the blood of Jesus.” Amen.

If this is the first time you prayed this prayer, I want to welcome you to the family of God. I encourage you to get involved in your local Bible believing and teaching church to surround yourself with a healthy body of Christian believers. Prayer

Father God, thank you for sending your son Jesus on earth to save us. Lord, we don’t deserve forgiveness, but you call us worthy. Lord, we don’t deserve to be healed, but you heal us and make us whole. Lord, we don’t deserve your love, but you love us unconditionally. Lord, there is no one like you. There is no god greater than you (our God). Lord, we love you and thank you for all you have done for us and continue to do for us. Lord, equip us for the journey ahead, give us wisdom and discernment for this day and days to come. Lord, fill us with faith and help us to trust you more each day. Lord, you are faithful. We don’t want to be the same. Continue to change us, Lord. Work in us in a mighty way. In Jesus name, amen.
