Happy Friday! I want you to know that we are praying for you and your families who are sick and facing medical trials. We are praying for the Lord to reveal himself and show mercy and healing in those medical situations. God is in control and he is still worth giving up our lives to follow him. May he give you strength as you press ahead. Stay focused on Him. Keep praying. Trust His plan.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 8:18-20 NLT
“18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he instructed his disciples to cross to the other side of the lake.
19 Then one of the teachers of religious law said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
20 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.””
REFLECTION
In these verses it is clear that Jesus had crowds of people surrounding him. Jesus, also knew the hearts of the people in the crowds. There were some who needed healing, some seeking hope, others who were convinced that Jesus was the Messiah and others who just wanted to be famous or important because they followed Jesus.
Here, Jesus listened and responded to the teacher of the religious law, basically saying (paraphrased by me) I hear you, but let me tell you something, I have no riches and no permanent home…are you still willing to follow me? Can you live like this?
Brothers and sisters in Christ, the cost of following Christ is not always cheap, or comfortable, or easy, but it is worth it. Let us not follow Christ out of obligation, or because we want recognition or fame, but let us seek the One who sent his son to die on the Cross for our sins so that we can be reconciled to Him because we love him. Let us seek Him with our whole heart and surrender our lives and motives to Him.
Are you willing to follow Him? _________
Are you willing to say, Lord, I’m going wherever you send me, wherever you take me, and I will do whatever you want me to do? ________
PRAY
Father God, in the name of Jesus, we come to you with thanks for all that you have done for us. Lord, we didn’t deserve a savior, but you knew we needed one and you loved us enough to send your one and only son to save us. Lord, forgive us when we fall short of following you and your commands. Lord, forgive us when our selfish ambitions take the place of following you. Lord, speak to our hearts and reveal to us those areas in our lives that hinder us from abiding in your word. Lord, you know everything about us and we need your Spirit to guide us. Lord, as we seek to do your will, give us discernment and teach us your ways. Help us not to be fans but true followers of you. Lord, as we seek to follow your plan, surround us with godly people who are strong in their faith to encourage us. Lord, give us wisdom to minister your word to the least, the last, and the lost. Lord, strengthen our faith as we trust you with everything in our lives. Lord, be our rock and our shield. Continue to change us. In Jesus name, amen.
