Remove the Log

Happy Monday! May you experience God’s best today and throughout the week. Enjoy today’s reading.

Bible Verse – Matthew 7:3-5 NLT
3“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.”

Reflection
Jesus was on a mission. He knew the hearts of the Pharisees and he knows our heart. The Pharisees made big public displays of their practices and self-righteousness, they condemned Jesus’ teachings and felt superior to the One who was superior.

While the Pharisees rejected Jesus’ teaching, Jesus’ teachings gives us an opportunity to reevaluate our own lives and hearts. So that in our quest to serve and love God with all our heart, that we never lose sight of the One who knows our heart and our motives. May we never get so self-righteous that we lose sight of the righteousness that we have in Christ. That when we seek to show love and gently correct others, that we have been changed in those areas by Christ. If we are going to call our self Christian’s (Christ followers), then let us follow the examples of Christ.

PRAYER
Father God, thank you for your love toward us. Lord, thank you for your peace, mercy and grace. Lord, thank you for opening up our eyes so that we can see you. Lord, you know us. Lord, you know our spiritual struggles. Lord, you know where we fall short and are in need of you to change us in all the areas of our lives. Lord, you even know the areas that need specialty care. Lord, remove the bandages from our eyes, rip off the band aids from our heart and begin to heal us. Lord, take away the things within us that hinder our relationship with you and others. Lord, we want to be different. Change us and use us for your glory, Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
