Why Are You Praying

Good morning! Do you recall the time we read through verses in the book of Psalms? Do you remember the heartfelt prayers of David? David, poured his heart out to the Lord. David’s prayers were bold and we use the words in his prayers today to remind us of our faithful and loving Father in heaven who hears us when we pray. Will you pour out your heart to the Lord in prayer today? Enjoy today’s verses.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 6:5-6 NLT

“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

REFLECTION

Prayer is a conversation with God. Prayers can be prayed at home, at work, in a prayer closet/room, in your car, at the doctor’s office or anywhere you may find yourself. Prayer is not limited to certain times or locations, you can have a conversation with God about anything and at anytime. However, in these verses the Lord was speaking directly about the motives of the Pharisees who would pray aloud for others to praise their prayers, not from a pure heart or relationship with the Lord. The Lord was critical about their motives and flashy prayers.

When we pray, let it be a conversation with the Lord. Invite our Heavenly Father into the space you are praying in and share your thoughts, concerns and your heart with him. When praying aloud, invite Him to enter the space so that His presence will be greater than the prayers you pray and so that others will also understand the significance of prayer begins with recognizing the One who answers them.

Questions to ponder:

What will you pray about today? _____

Who will you pray for today? _______

PRAYER

Loving Father in heaven, thank you for answering our prayers. Lord, thank you for caring for us and teaching us about prayer. Lord, may our prayers be pleasing to you. Lord, may they be pure in heart and a time when we can share with you our real self. Lord, break our hearts for what breaks yours. Help us to reflect you and your love for others as we pray for the needs of others. Lord, help us to be all that you have called us to be. Lord, we pray for healing of the sick. Lord, touch them. Lord, we pray for the churches around the world and ask that you sustain them as they preach the gospel message to their communities and throughout the world. Lord, continue to change us. Help us to continue to build an intimate relationship with you. Lord, comfort those who are grieving and pour out your peace. In Jesus name, amen.
