Happy Monday! As a child, I was a bit strong willed. My mother would instruct me to do something or tell me how to behave, but on the days I chose to do my own thing and would get in trouble for it, my mother would say, “didn’t I tell you…” My immediate response to get out of trouble would be, “I forgot.” My mother’s faithful response was, “let me help you to remember…”
Sisters and brothers, last week we began reading 2 Peter chapter 3. In verses 1-4, the author of 2 Peter challenged readers with a reminder that there will be scoffing and mocking of our faith in God and Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Today, we will continue reading on the mindset of those who deliberately forget the power of God. Join me as we read verses 5-7.
Bible Verse – 2 Peter 3:5-7 NLT
“5 They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. 6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. 7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.“
REFLECTION
While we are here on earth, the scoffers and mockers may not see any evidence that the Lord is coming soon, so they continue to live their lives as though it is not true. They willing forget the power of God and His word. They push aside in their mind the One who created the heavens and the earth, who created them (knitted them in their mother’s womb) and who has the power to destroy all things with a word. The nonbelievers continue to live their lives as if they are in control of their lives and destiny, when in fact God is in control.
In Galatians 6:7-8 NLT, the verses read “7Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.”
Sisters and brothers, while we do not know the time or day the Lord is coming. Continue to live to please the Lord, not people of this world, but live to please the Lord. The fruit you bear from living to please the Lord will bring you to a place of peace and joy in the Lord. Continue to do good, even when the odds are stacked against you, because in due time the Lord who is victorious and in control over all things will see you through. Many Christians do not need to worry about the judgment of fire, because when it is all said and done they will be found in the Lord and in eternity with Him. However, keep praying for the lost, least and last so that all may come to know the Lord so that none will perish.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for today. Thank you for your amazing grace over our lives. Lord, thank you for saving us from destruction and for giving us new life in you. Lord, we desire to surrender our will to you. Lord, we desire to remember the word of God so that we may live accordingly. Therefore, Father imprint your word on our hearts and in our minds so that we will not be led astray by false witnesses, false teachers or the enemy’s schemes to lead us astray. Lord, keep us focused on you, humble in spirit and relentlessly dependent upon you. Change us, Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
