Good morning! Today is a new day. It’s a great day for new beginnings. Last week we began reading 2 Peter. The author of 2 Peter began the letter with a call for readers to grow in faith and to pay attention to the scriptures. In 2 Peter chapter 2, the author informs us on the dangers of false teachers. Join me as we begin our reading in chapter 2.
Bible Verse – 2 Peter 2:1-3 NLT
“1But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. 3 In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.”
Reflection
Sisters and brothers, these false teachers taught one thing and lived another way. They followed their natural desires of the flesh instead of the desire to follow Christ. They were evil, immoral, corrupt and didn’t care who knew it. The author warns us of those type of teachers so that we may remain mindful of the Biblical understanding of the scriptures and for us to use discernment when people are misusing authority in the church. These warnings are extremely relevant today.
Sisters and brothers, while we know God has a plan of judgment and destruction for false prophets and teachers, we also should be mindful of who we follow and learn the word of God for ourselves so that we do not become deceived by false teachers.

Prayer
Father God, thank you for your word, which is truth. Thank you for forgiveness and mercy. Thank you for restoration. Lord, as we seek to grow closer to you in relationship, prayer and the study of your word help us to understand the scriptures. Lord, teach us how to apply it in our own lives. Lord, direct us and enhance our ability to live in Christ Jesus. Lord, we do not want to hold onto our old nature, we want to be transformed by you and you alone. Protect and keep us as we continue to follow you. Lord, ignite fire and passion into our souls so that we may light up the world by being an example of you here on earth. Lord, help us to live an abundant life in you. In Jesus name, amen.
