The Secret

Good morning! Have you ever trusted someone with a secret? Maybe you shared information about a surprise or a gift with someone you could trust, but you always knew that one person you couldn’t share the secret with because they would tell it to someone else. Well in today’s devotion there is a secret, but you can tell anyone you know about this secret, even complete strangers. Enjoy today’s devotion and your day.

Bible verse – Colossians 1:24-29 NLT

24 I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church. 25 God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you. 26 This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God’s people. 27 For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.

28 So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect[g] in their relationship to Christ. 29 That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.”

Reflection

Apostle Paul had much to say about the Colossian believers and our relationship with Christ Jesus. That even when Paul experienced abuse and imprisonment because he shared the Good News, it was to ensure Greeks, Jews and anyone else knew and understood who Christ is, that Christ came to save us and reconcile us back to God. Paul was determined to fulfill what Christ had called him to do – proclaim the Good News of Christ Jesus and share with everyone things that had been kept from them.

Through Christ everyone was able to become joint heirs. There was no longer separation by ethnicity, gender or culture, all become one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26-28 states it perfectly:

26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Sisters and brothers, the secret is: Christ lives in you. But do not keep that secret to yourself. Allow Christ to be a part of you and to be seen in everything you do. Do not keep him tucked inside, allow His light to shine through you.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for your son Jesus Christ who made a way for everyone to be reconciled to you. Thank you Lord Jesus for coming into our lives and for living within us. Lord, we want your light to shine brightly through us. Lord, when we are exhausted, restless, and unable to give our best take the wheel. Filter our speech, hold our tongues, soften our expressions, and lead us to follow you. Lord, give us rest, restore our bodies, and refresh our minds so that we may be perfect examples of You working within us.

Lord, we need you, we surrender our will to Yours. Lord, continue to transform us daily. Help us to disconnect from the things that draw us away from you. In Jesus name, amen.
