Produce Good Fruit

Happy Tuesday! Today we will continue our reading in the book of Colossians. May today’s devotion and prayer bless you. Have a wonderful day.

Bible verse – Colossians 1:6-10 NLT

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.

You learned about the Good News from Epaphras, our beloved co-worker. He is Christ’s faithful servant, and he is helping us on your behalf. He has told us about the love for others that the Holy Spirit has given you.

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.”

Reflection

Apostle Paul is sharing with the Colossian church that they are not alone in hearing and receiving the Good News. In fact, he shared, the same Good News about Jesus Christ was going out all over the world. However, Paul was moved to write them because of what he had heard about their faith and the love that the believers had for others, which the Holy Spirit gave them. To me, if their love for others was recognized as being given by the Holy Spirit then it wasn’t a fly by night or friendly gesture type of love, but an authentic and sincere love for others.

Sisters and brothers, our world would be so much better if people showed authentic and sincere love for others.

Another point is in verse six (6), the Good News:

  • bears fruit everywhere, and
  • changes lives

Do you remember the first time you heard the Good News of Jesus Christ?

Sisters and brothers, we are challenged daily by the world to think bigger and better, to seek out what we desire, and to be our best self. As Christians we are challenged to seek God and align our will to His. To grow more in spiritual wisdom and in the understanding of God. To live a life that pleases the Lord and produces every kind of God fruit.

The joy of following Christ and His will does not limit us from fulfilling great things, but it stirs us to draw nearer to the Lord. As we draw nearer, our hearts and minds begin to align with God’s plan for our lives. We begin to grow and continue to mature in faith.

How has your life changed since you first heard and understood the truth of God’s wonderful grace?

Well, if you are willing the Lord is ready to stretch you some more. Trust His growth plan, it is the best investment you will find, and the return is out of this world.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for your word in the book of Colossians. Lord, thank you for the examples set before us so that we may know the Good News and mature in faith. Lord, thank you for unveiling our eyes to see the things you are doing amongst us. Lord, slow us down to focus on you and what you desire for us to understand. Lord, pour out Your spiritual wisdom on us so that we will align our lives to Your will. Lord, we don’t want to make a move without you being present with us. Lord, give us boldness to move when you call us to move and peace when you call us to be still. Lord, help us to understand the difference. Lord, we need you every day of our lives. Help us to feel your presence today. Renew our minds. Transform our hearts and heal whatever is broken. Lord, we pray for our nation. Lord, we pray that whatever the outcome is that You be right in the midst of healing and transforming our nation to stand in love for one another. Lord, we know that you came and died for each one of us to be reconciled to God. There is not one person that you overlooked whether they were robbers, murderers, addicts, pastors, school teachers, stay at home parents, nurses, janitors, or CEOs. You took us all into account – each one of us sinners and offered us forgiveness. Lord, help us to forgive as you forgave and to speak up and help out those who have been marginalized. Lord, we want to stand for what you stand for, not our own self-righteousness. We want to produce good fruit, Lord begin the process. Take the lead today – we trust you. In Jesus name, amen.
