28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ 29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30 He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:28-30 (NIV)

Jesus is greater than anything or anyone.  We need more of Jesus and less of ourselves.  This doesn’t mean that we cannot celebrate our successes.  It is a reminder to keep things in perspective. We have been gifted in many areas and it would do us good to use our gifts as an offering to our King.  John knew his role and he experienced true joy in knowing that the promises he had been holding near his heart were now complete.

Where in your life do you need to become less? (i.e. finances, relationships, work)  How can you apply your faith in the areas where you need to become less? Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in the next steps to transformation in the areas you identified.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for reminding us that you are greater than any person or situation that we may face in life.  We thank you for your strength and peace as we identify the areas where we need to become less so that you can become greater.  In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Guest Contributor Bio: Dora Lozano is a faithful follower of Christ living out her faith daily. Dora is the mother of two amazing children. The eldest is in their junior year at university. The youngest is in their sophomore year of high school. Dora has spent thirty years working in the California Community College system. Currently, Dora is an academic counselor for foster youth and homeless youth at a community college in Southern California. Dora’s personal mission statement is to “Love God, Do Good and Serve, Teach and Encourage Others”. Dora lives out her mission through her work and in her faith community where she serves on the usher team. Dora enjoys spending time with her children and her sweet puppy dog. As a family they enjoy being loud and silly, listening to a wide variety of music, taking road trips, making popcorn and watching movies.
