Resounding, Yes.

Happy Tuesday! Have you ever been in a situation where somebody questioned your response? Maybe to confirm what you stated, you answered yes or no, that wasn’t what I said. Too often, we mistake words but yes and no are quite clear. Join me today as we continue our reading in 1 Corinthians chapter 1.

15 Since I was so sure of your understanding and trust, I wanted to give you a double blessing by visiting you twice— 16 first on my way to Macedonia and again when I returned from Macedonia.[e] Then you could send me on my way to Judea.

17 You may be asking why I changed my plan. Do you think I make my plans carelessly? Do you think I am like people of the world who say “Yes” when they really mean “No”? 18 As surely as God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” 19 For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas,[f] Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says. 20 For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.” – 2 Corinthians 1:15-20 NLT

Paul wrote these words in defense of his inability to follow his initial plan to make two trips to Corinth. As a result of his delay, there were rumors circulating about Paul’s inconsistency or wavering. Paul defends his stance and states, “As surely as God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” Paul reminds them that he did not make plans in a worldy way (yes, no, maybe).

Sisters and brothers, the word resounding means unmistakable. In a world where things are easily mistaken for something else God’s word and promises are clearly unmistakable. God’s word means yes and through Christ Jesus our amen means yes.

What promises do you need to believe God said yes to? _________ Maybe it is the promise over your child, over your marriage, over your dream, over finances, whatever it is keep praying and believing God’s promises – He doesn’t waver. Trust His yes or no.

Father God, thank you for your promises and thank you for your son Jesus. Lord, we are thankful for your resounding yes to your promises. Lord, you are faithful to us and you never lead us astray. Lord, as we follow you, teach us to be consistent with our yes and no. Lord, guide us to stand firm in your word and believe your truth is more powerful than our circumstances. Lord, when the world tries to sway or confuse us we know that we can always trust your word. Lord, keep us and transform us daily. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep praying! Keep Trusting! Keep believing!
