Are You Covered?

Happy Wednesday! May God meet you where you are today. Have a blessed day.

I am so glad that you always keep me in your thoughts, and that you are following the teachings I passed on to you. But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.[a]4 A man dishonors his head[b] if he covers his head while praying or prophesying. But a woman dishonors her head[c] if she prays or prophesies without a covering on her head, for this is the same as shaving her head. Yes, if she refuses to wear a head covering, she should cut off all her hair! But since it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or her head shaved, she should wear a covering.[d]” 1 Corinthians 11:2-6

While studying these verses I found some commentary on what Paul perhaps was saying in these verses. One that stuck with me the most was the order of worship. Given the period/era this was written and the culture of acceptance of women, Paul shared, “The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.” He pointed this out because women and men were going against the customs and rejecting subordination within the church and while it may seemed freeing, it was creating more disruption in the church, which in the case of men dishonored Christ and in the case of women dishonored herself and her spiritual head (her husband).

We know from reading the Bible that men and women were both created by God (Genesis 1:27; 2:18) and there are times we forget who created us all. We tend to forget, because we have been given the choice to follow God or walk away from God. We have been given the freedom to be free in Christ Jesus or free to live in bondage to sin. However, the one thing a Christian should know is that our covering is Christ Jesus. He is the head of us all (especially if there is no male presence, or a male presence is not living in submission to God). In essence sisters and brothers, the Lord is covering you spiritually and physically. He is the ultimate spiritual head and we should not dishonor him in the church, in our homes, on our jobs or in life.

Today, think about how you are honoring or dishonor God. How can you honor the One who is covering you daily?

Father God, thank you for today. Lord thank you for your grace and love toward us. Lord, thank you for being merciful even when we were not mindful of you. Lord, forgive us for forgetting that you have covered us. Lord, forgive us for the times that we failed to recognize you as the head of our lives. Lord, we submit our lives to you and we surrender our will to yours. Lord, you are faithful in all the things you have done for us. Lord, we trust your covering over our lives. Lord, lead us in the way that we should go. Lord, when we are confused about those things help us to hear you and recognize your voice. Lord, we pray for broken families, we pray for families who have been abused by male figures in authority and we ask for you to bring healing and restoration to their lives. Lord, we pray for husbands and men around the world to submit to your authority. Lord, we pray for them to be committed spiritual leaders who honor you in everything that they do. Lord, we pray for them to take up the banner and be the spiritual leaders in their homes. Lord, we pray for women to trust God as their spiritual leader. Lord, we pray for wives who are in situations where there husband are far away from You and ask that you be with her. Lord, continue to cover her and her household. Lord, we pray that while you lead her that you begin to work in and transform her spouse into the godly man you designed him to be. Lord, restore families, restore marriages, keep us covered and focused on you. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep praying! Keep Trusting! Keep believing!
