Remember Who You Belong To

Good morning! My mother always had books around the house. For years, we new at Christmas time that we would receive a new book or books for Christmas. In those books she would write, this book belongs to…, so there was no doubt who received a certain book or who the owner was. As a preschool teacher and director she was accustom to labeling things with the owner’s name. Today, we will read about another owner who owns many things. Join me as we continue in chapter 3. Have a wonderful day.

18 Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.”[Job 5:13] 20 And again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless.”[Psalm 94:11]

21 So don’t boast about following a particular human leader. For everything belongs to you—22 whether Paul or Apollos or Peter, or the world, or life and death, or the present and the future. Everything belongs to you, 23 and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.” – 1 Corinthians 3:18-23 NLT

In these verses Paul continues to elaborate on the fact that human wisdom cannot compare to godly wisdom. That the world’s wisdom without God’s wisdom is foolish and will fail to reach it’s full potential. However, godly wisdom is what we should always seek. There is no greater comfort or wisdom than, the wisdom and discernment that comes from the Lord.

Sisters and brothers, in a world where foolish talk and boasting has become acceptable, I encourage you to remember who you belong to. Just in case you have forgotten or have gotten lost on the journey:

  • You belong to Christ. v.23
  • Christ belongs to God. v.23
  • As a child of God everything belongs to you. v.22
  • You are the apple of His eye. (Zechariah 2:8)
  • You are his chosen, holy and dearly loved. Colossians 3:12)
  • You are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
  • He died for you. (2 Corinthians 5:15, 1 Peter 3:18)
  • He came so that you may have life and live it abundantly. (John 10:10)
  • No weapon formed against you will prosper. (Isaiah 54:17)
  • You are the head and not the tail. (Deuteronomy 28:13)
  • You are victorious. (1 Corinthians 15:57)

You can go through today, safe and secure knowing the God who formed you in your mother’s womb is the same God who loves you, cares for you, the one who created all things and controls all things. Sisters and brothers, may the Lord, be your strength and banner as you go about this day. May his wisdom fill you with all the things that you need to make godly decisions. May he direct your steps, influence your actions and lead you toward a greater outcome. – In Jesus name, amen.

Remember who you belong to.

Have a wonderful day.
