Have You Been Called?

Happy Monday! Last week we finished the book of 2 Peter. Today we will begin our journey through 1 Corinthians. 1 Corinthians was written by the apostle Paul. We are introduced to the Apostle Paul in the book of Acts. Paul whose name was formerly Saul was brought to our attention because he would persecute Christians. However, on his way to persecute more Christians, Paul heard the voice of the Lord say, “Why do you persecute me?” Through a series of events recorded in Acts chapter 9, we can read that the conversation with the Lord changed Paul’s trajectory forever. Paul was converted to Christianity, he preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. Join me as we read Paul’s letter to the Corinthian church.

“This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from our brother Sosthenes. I am writing to God’s church in Corinth,[a] to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus,[b] just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.” – 1 Corinthians 1:1-3 NLT

In this introduction, Paul is disclosing who he is and reminding the church of who they are. In the same way, sisters and brothers remember if you have called on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ you too have been called by God to be his own holy people. As you go through the day, remind yourself of who and whose you are in Christ Jesus.

Father God, thank you for sending your son Jesus to save us. Lord, forgive us for our sins and for living our lives apart from you. Lord, equip us to be all that you have called us to be. Direct our thoughts and change our hearts to be aligned with your word. Lord, imprint your words in our mouths and minds so that we will remember your truth and speak boldly about what we believe. Lord, as we go through this day remind us of who and whose we are. Lord, when we are on our way to wherever we are going, when we are in the midst of any situation, when we feel like throwing in the towel, Lord, strengthen us and continue to grow us closer to you. Lord, remind us of the victory that we have in you. Lord, bring to our remembrance your faithful promises and proclaim them over our lives. Lord, protect us from the prowling enemy who wishes to destroy us. Lord, make us whole and complete in you. Continue to change us. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep praying! Keep trusting! Keep pursuing the Lord!
