Do You Believe Without Seeing?

Good morning! Have you ever had one of those moments when you had to share something and it was so important, that you had to interrupt a conversation before you forgot what you were going to say or before you left? Today, in 2 Peter the author knew he was about to leave so he made for sure he wrote this letter. Enjoy as we continue in chapter 1.

12 Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught. 13 And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live. 14 For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life, 15 so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

16 For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes 17 when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” 18 We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.” – 2 Peter 1:12-18 NLT

Sisters and brothers, the author of 2 Peter is reassuring the readers of the letter and us about our Lord Jesus Christ. He affirms his words by sharing what he experienced and saw first hand.

This reminds me of John chapter 20, where Thomas (also known as doubting Thomas) and Jesus were having dialogue, “27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!” 28 “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed. 29 Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”

While we haven’t seen Jesus first hand, nor have we touched him physically, those who believe are blessed. We can experience the fullness of Jesus Christ our Lord, because “God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.” (1 John 4: 9)

God’s love for us is unending. His desire for us to be in relationship with him goes far beyond what we could ever imagine. He wants us to be free from slavery to sin and be united with Him. Let us live the blessed life God intended for us to live. Let us trust His plan and purpose for us and walk in his truth.

Father God, thank you for your faithful servant who wrote this letter to remind us of your faithfulness. Lord, thank you for sending your only son to save us. Lord, we ask for forgiveness of our sins (known and unknown). Lord, turn us away from the things that have had us locked in bondage and broken in spirit. Lord, help us to desire you more than the things we are addicted too. Lead us in your mighty power and transform us into who you have designed us to be. Lord, remove our fears and doubts, and help us to stand firm in you. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep praying! Keep trusting! Keep pursuing the Lord!
