Happy Monday! Last week, we discussed behaviors and submission to authority. This week we will continue to discuss 1 Peter chapter 3 submission and authority.
“In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over 2 by observing your pure and reverent lives.” 1 Peter 3:1-2 NLT
Being married takes work, staying married takes a lot of work, but God will help you if you let him in. In these verses, the word talks about submission to authority. Always remember the first authority that you are submitting to is the Lord’s, so that when you are in your home or out and about you will be able to display godly character in all of your relationships. God designed the covenant of marriage. He created Eve as Adam’s helpmate. Their marriage was beautiful until the day they allowed Satan in. Therefore, it is important to be in fervent prayer for your marriage, the enemy is always out to destroy the family unit. So even if you married a spouse who is a non-believer, continue to stand in faith for them to submit their lives to Christ’s authority. As you stand firm in truth and faith, and allow your spouse to see Christ in you, your witness (your life) can change the heart of an unbelieving spouse.
Your task today:
- If you are married, pray for your spouse and marriage. Pray for God to continue to work in you
- If you are single, pray for those who are married.
- If you are considering marriage, pray for your future spouse, pray for God to prepare you to be the spouse that he desires for you to be, and for marriages around you.
Father God, thank you for being a loving Father. Lord, thank you for your son Jesus. Lord, forgive us of the times when we did not submit to your authority. Lord, continue to work in us and change us to be more like you. Lord, help us to examine your word and apply it to our lives daily. Lord, we pray for all the men across the world today. Lord, we ask that you make them into godly men, men who submit their lives to you. Lord, equip them to lead their families and their homes. Lord, help them to seek you on all decisions that must be made. Lord, help them to be loving spouses who are filled with a desire to please you. Lord, repair broken marriages, restore families that are broken or going through difficulties and encourage the family unit to submit to your authority. Lord, we pray for women who are married, considering marriage and are single. Lord, we ask that you cover them as wives who desire to please you and their spouses. Lord, we pray for your direction in their lives and for peace to flow from their hearts. Lord, guide the women to be godly wives, who submit to your authority and who allow it to overflow in their homes. Lord, help the women rekindle love for their spouses daily. Lord, help the women to be examples of your love in the home. Lord, as they seek you first and allow their husbands to lead, let your fruit be seen. Let others see your work in them so that marriages continue to thrive because of other godly examples. Lord, lead us all in the way we should go and the way we communicate with others. In Jesus name, amen.
