There Is Hope

Happy Valentine’s day! God loves you so much, that he sent his one and only son Jesus to save you. The greatest Valentine’s gift is the free gift of salvation. Today is a great day to meditate on the Love of the Father and Son, and allow the Holy Spirit to fill us with love that overflows to others. How will you show or share the love of Jesus Christ today?

Sisters and brothers, we are continuing in Matthew chapter 24. Remember, Jesus is still responding to the two questions the disciples asked, “when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?” (v.3b) Join me as we continue to read Jesus’ response.

“15 “The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration [Daniel 9:27, 11:31, 12:11] standing in the Holy Place.” (Reader, pay attention!) 16 “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. 17 A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. 18 A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. 19 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. 20 And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. 22 In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.” – Matthew 24:15-22 NLT

In the midst of all the tribulations there is still hope. The hope that we have as believers is that, “it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.” Sisters and brothers, let me remind you that we are God’s chosen ones. In 1 Peter 2:9-10 we are reminded:

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 10 “Once you had no identity as a people;
    now you are God’s people.
Once you received no mercy;
    now you have received God’s mercy.”

Don’t panic, stay planted/rooted in the Word of God. Stay focused “for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” Continue to trust His protection and His ability to keep us from now until forever more.

Father God, in the name of Jesus we come to you in prayer. Father, you are so merciful and we thank you for that. Father, thank you for sending Jesus to tell us all these things. Father, thank you for sending Jesus to save us. Father we know we deserved to be on that cross for the sins we have committed, for the times we turned away from you, but Father you made sure we had a way to be reconciled to you. Thank you! Thank you! Father as we continue to read through these chapters and verses, please unveil our eyes so that we see you. Teach us how to apply all these things and follow the examples of Jesus Christ in this world. We love you and thank you. Thank you for chosing us. Father pour out your Holy Spirit on us and use us as you please. In Jesus name, amen.
