Good morning! It’s the final Monday in January 2019. Have you taken time this month to draw closer to God, if so keep on spending time with Him. If not, it is not too late to draw closer to Him. Spend some time in praying to the Lord – He listens. Enjoy today’s reading and your day.
“23 That same day Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question: 24 “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name.’[Deuteronomy 25:5-6] 25 Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children, so his brother married the widow. 26 But the second brother also died, and the third brother married her. This continued with all seven of them. 27 Last of all, the woman also died. 28 So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her.”” – Matthew 22:23-28 NLT
Jesus was approached for the second time in one day. The first time, was earlier in the day when the Pharisees and Herodians asked about paying taxes. They could not trap Jesus then, but of course religious leaders continued with their attempts. The second group of religious leaders were called the Sadducees. While the Sadducees referred to the book of Deuteronomy in their questioning, they did not fully understand what the answer would be in light of the ressurection.
What do you think the answer is? _____ Tomorrow as we continue in this chapter, we will read and understand Jesus’ response to the Sadducees.
Father God, thank you for another day. Thank you for waking us up this morning to be used by you. Lord, you know the needs of your people, you know all the answers to the questions we ask. You continue to strengthen us and give us wisdom and discernment to understand your word. Lord, while we are in this world, continue to change us so that we are not of the world. Lord, equip us with understanding. Give us boldness to live a life that is worthy of your praise. Lord, you are mighty and greater than anything we will come against today, therefore continue to remind us of your greatness and to leave our anxieties and worries in your capable hands. Be with us, Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
Keep praying, the Lord hears you! Keep seeking! Keep trusting the process!
