They Missed It

Happy Monday! Have you ever been in a crowded place? A place where there are so many people, and someone tried to point someone out or something out? Did you find yourself straining to see? Did you ever see that person or thing or did you give up? Today, we will continue in Matthew 21:14-17 NLT, where there is a group of people standing in the presence of the Savior. Enjoy!

“14 The blind and the lame came to him in the Temple, and he healed them. 15 The leading priests and the teachers of religious law saw these wonderful miracles and heard even the children in the Temple shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David.”

But the leaders were indignant. 16 They asked Jesus, “Do you hear what these children are saying?”

“Yes,” Jesus replied. “Haven’t you ever read the Scriptures? For they say, ‘You have taught children and infants to give you praise.’[Psalm 8:2]” 17 Then he returned to Bethany, where he stayed overnight.” – Matthew 21:14-16NLT

Key things that stood out in these verses:

  • Jesus continued to heal the blind and the lame.
  • The leading priest and the teachers of the religious law saw these “wonderful miracles”.
  • The children in the temple were shouting “Praise God for the Son of David.”

While all of these things seem wonderful, what remains surprising is the the leading priest and the teachers saw the people being healed “wonderful miracles”, yet they missed it. They missed Jesus as healer and as the Son of David.

Jesus of course responded the teachers and religious leaders with [excuse me as I paraphrase], I know you read the scriptures, you should at least remember, Psalm 8:1-2 where it reads: “O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!  Your glory is higher than the heavens. You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength,[praise] silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.”

Brothers and sisters, even the children were praising Jesus. Praise God because He is worthy of praise. Also, recognize what God is doing in and around you. There is evidence that He is with us, still healing, still calming storms, still changing the hearts and minds of his children. Don’t miss Him, follow Him.

Father God, we thank you for today. Lord thank you for your healing power and your mercy. Lord, work in us and help us to keep our eyes focused on you. Lord, don’t let our lips fall silent of praise, let us rejoice of all your goodness. Lord, equip us to teach the young, old and in between your precious word and the love that you extend to all of us. Lord, correct us when we begin to act or think like the religous leaders and teachers who missed and didn’t understand what you were doing on earth. Lord, helps us to refrain from acting like we are God. Lord, we want to follow you. Teach us all your ways. Change our hearts to be more like you. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep praying, the Lord hears you! Keep seeking! Keep trusting the process!
