Who Do They Say He Is

Happy Wednesday! We made it to another day that the Lord has made. May your day be filled with rejoicing and God’s favor. Have a blessed day and a Happy Thanksgiving!

“13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” 15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” 20 Then he sternly warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.” – Matthew 16:13-20 NLT

Here in these verses, we see Jesus is at the questions and answer period with His disciples. See the disciples had been with Jesus to various regions, have seen miracles and healings, and listened to Jesus teach night and day. At this particular time, He’s asking who do the people say I am and then He asked who do you say I am (what do you believe)? Peter acknowledges the question and answers “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. “

Messiah means the annointed One and according to the Old Testament the Messiah is God.

  • Isaiah 9:6 –
For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
        And he will be called:
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
        Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
  • Jeremiah 23:5-6 – “For the time is coming,”
        says the Lord,
“when I will raise up a righteous descendant
        from King David’s line.
He will be a King who rules with wisdom.
He will do what is just and right throughout the land.
And this will be his name:
        ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’
In that day Judah will be saved,
and Israel will live in safety.”
  • Micah 5:2 –
    “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
are only a small village among all the people of Judah.
    Yet a ruler of Israel,
whose origins are in the distant past,
will come from you on my behalf.”

Brothers and sisters, who do you say He is? ______
