He Is The Bread

Good morning! The Lord is always faithful to His word. Trust Him today.

“5 Later, after they crossed to the other side of the lake, the disciples discovered they had forgotten to bring any bread. “Watch out!” Jesus warned them. “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread. Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread? Don’t you understand even yet? Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of leftovers you picked up? 10 Or the 4,000 I fed with seven loaves, and the large baskets of leftovers you picked up? 11 Why can’t you understand that I’m not talking about bread? So again I say, ‘Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’”

12 Then at last they understood that he wasn’t speaking about the yeast in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” – Matthew 16:5-12 NLT

Verses that stood out today:

  • You have so little faith. v.8
  • Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread? v.8
  • Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees. v.11

Jesus spoke of little faith in Matthew 6:30, 8:26, and 14:31. He has shown the disciples miracles after miracles (healing, walking on water, water to wine, an abundance from something small, forgiveness of sin, etc.), yet their faith was so small.

Brothers and sisters, God has shown us time and time again, just how faithful He is. Where do you need to show more faith and trust in God the One who sent His one and only Son to save us? ______________

In John 6:35-36 (NIV), Jesus talks about being the bread of life, 35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.”

The disciples still struggled with Jesus being their source and provider – the Bread of life.

What are you struggling with today? _________

Will you trust the Lord with it? _________

Finally, Jesus reminds us to beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducces, because their teachings were deceptive and corrupting the people.

Be mindful today, that there are still Pharisees and Sadducces amongst us, they just have different names, but the same plot to destroy the idea of teaching the Biblical truth. That is why it is important to read the Bible for yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Word of God to you.

Father God, thank you for your word and for your truth. Lord, thank you for being our bread of life, provider and sustainer. Lord, you reign on high and we want you to reign in our lives forever.  Lord, forgive us of our sins (known and unknown) and teach us your ways. Lord, guide our thoughts and actions so that we will be pleasing to you. Lord, we are still praying for healing for those who have been sick for awhile, for those who have recently became ill or are in pain and ask that you touch their bodies and heal them. Lord, we pray for everyone who is grieving and we ask for your Holy Spirit to pour out on them and comfort them. Lord, give them peace of mind and calmness in spirit, let them feel your presence today. Lord, we are praying for all those expecting, whether they are expecting a child or another miracle, Lord equip them and prepare them for what you have planned for them. Open their eyes and help them to see you at work in their lives. Lord, open their ears to recognize your voice and hear from you. Lord, change us. Change us, Lord. Lord, change us to be more like you. In Jesus name, amen.
