She Knew He Would

Happy Wednesday! May the Lord increase our faith. Enjoy today’s reading.

“21 Then Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Gentile[e] woman who lived there came to him, pleading, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely.”

23 But Jesus gave her no reply, not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to send her away. “Tell her to go away,” they said. “She is bothering us with all her begging.”

24 Then Jesus said to the woman, “I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep—the people of Israel.”

25 But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, “Lord, help me!”

26 Jesus responded, “It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.”

27 She replied, “That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.”

28 “Dear woman,” Jesus said to her, “your faith is great. Your request is granted.” And her daughter was instantly healed.” – Matthew 15:21-28 NLT

While Jesus began His ministry speaking to Israel, Israel’s religious leaders often rejected Jesus’ teachings and the miracles being done. This woman was a gentile woman (probably a Canaanite) persistent in her request for the Lord to heal and deliver her daughter. It was obvious that she heard about or saw Jesus performing miracles. As she pressed in and remained consistent and confident in her request, and the Lord granted her the answer to her prayer.

Brothers and sisters, no matter what background we come from the Lord loves us and Jesus came to die on the cross for us.

Take aways:

  1. Jesus has the authority to cast out demons.
  2. Jesus answers prayers. He honors consistent prayer.
  3. No matter our background, we can go directly to God the Father in Jesus name and ask for healing for our selves or on behalf of others.
  4. The woman had faith.

What do you need to pray about? ________

Father God, thank you for having mercy on us. Lord, while we were sinners you came to save us. Lord, we thank you. Lord, we need you. You know all the needs of these readers, you know every tear that has fallen from their eyes. Lord, you know the prayers that have been prayed for – day after day and year after year. Lord, today we are asking that you answer our prayers. Lord, restore marriages, heal the sick, reconcile families, clear debts, increase employment hours, provide jobs, repair cars and bring peace to those who are struggling. Lord, as you answer those prayers, we also ask that you continue to work in us to be faithful servants of you. Lord, guide us to speak to others about you. Make us bold, brave and increase our faith. Lord, we know you are able to do these things and more, we trust you and your will be done. In Jesus name,  amen!
