Good morning! Have you seen the I Love Lucy episode when Lucy and Ethel prepared dough to make bread. Lucy tried to knead the dough but it grew bigger and heavier. Eventually, she got it in the oven and when it was done there were several feet of bread that poured out of the oven. Today, we are going to read another parable in Matthew chapter 13 titled the Parable of the Yeast.
33 Jesus also used this illustration: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.”
34 Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables.35 This fulfilled what God had spoken through the prophet:
“I will speak to you in parables.
I will explain things hidden since the creation of the world.[Psalm 78:2]” – Matthew 13:33-35 NLT
Just like a little yeast goes through every part of the dough, so does the gospel message as we share the message with others – it will go to the end of the earth. We don’t need to pour a fire hose of the gospel down anyone’s throat at one time hoping they retain something. We can share it little by little, bite size portions and the Lord will cause the word to grow in their hearts. As it grows it will spread to the next person and the next.
Will you allow the Lord to use you to help expand the kingdom? Will you be like active yeast that continues to grow – growing in faith and spreading the gospel message with others?
Father God, thank you for today. Lord, you are so good to us. Lord, you know everything about us and you still love us. Lord, thank you for your endless mercy, for the Holy Spirit convicting our hearts when we stray off the path and for the forgiveness of sin that you offer. Lord, there is none like you. Lord, equip us and lead us in the way we should go. Cover our minds and thoughts as we pursue You while living in this world of chaos and confusion. Lord, be our peace. Lord, you know what the doctors reports say. Lord, you know what the bank account balances are. Lord, you know what price the mechanic just quoted. Lord, you know the family dynamics. Lord, you know our painful past. But Lord, we know Your truth. We know You are Alpha and Omega. We know You make all things new. We know You are healer. We know You are provider. We know that You are able. So Father God, today, show us Your faithfulness. Lord, sustain our faith and transform us into people who are bold and trust you. Lord, keep pressing your word into our hearts. Lord, continue to reveal your word/truth to us. May your word permeate through every area of our lives. May our ears hear and understand all that you have called us to do. Lord, give us eyes to see you work in us and around us. In Jesus name, amen.
Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
