Good Morning and Happy Wednesday! The Lord is faithful. He will plant His word on/in good soil. Enjoy today’s devotion as we continue with the first parable in Matthew chapter 13.
“10 His disciples came and asked him, “Why do you use parables when you talk to the people?”
11 He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets[a] of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not. 12 To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. 13 That is why I use these parables,
For they look, but they don’t really see.
They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.
14 This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah that says,
‘When you hear what I say,
you will not understand.
When you see what I do,
you will not comprehend.
15 For the hearts of these people are hardened,
and their ears cannot hear,
and they have closed their eyes—
so their eyes cannot see,
and their ears cannot hear,
and their hearts cannot understand,
and they cannot turn to me
and let me heal them.’[b]
16 “But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. 17 I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.” – Matthew 13:10-17 NLT
Jesus spoke in parables to reveal the truth to believers. Those who didn’t believe could not understand. Even the religious leaders who rejected Jesus did not understand and the little they knew, they no longer understood (v. 12). Just as Isaiah prophesied and in Jesus’ earthly ministry, many people saw but did not see (perceive), they heard but did not understand.
Sisters and brothers pray for the Lord to open our eyes so that we can perceive. Call out to the Lord, to open our ears so that we may understand.
Lord, have your way…we want to follow you. Let the seeds of your word take root.
Father God, thank you for blessing our eyes – for we see; and our ears because we hear. Lord, penetrate our hearts to long for you and your word. Lord, bless us with understanding and transformation of character. Lord, may our lips and actions speak your truth. Lord, help us to put our hope and trust in you daily. Lord, we pray for those who don’t know you and ask that you send us to speak with them and share the gospel message. Lord, we pray for the least, lost and last, and ask that you begin to change their circumstances and hearts to receive you. Lord, we pray for the women who will be coming to the retreat and ask for you to prepare/soften their hearts, open their eyes and increase their hearing so that they can receive you. Lord, you came for the lost so that we would be found – thank you! Lord, continue your mighty work amongst us. Lord, equip us and remove division amongst the church and your people. Lord, may we all see the precious gifts, talents and call you have for all of us to reach the lost. Lord, don’t let us sit still, don’t let us wait for others to do the work, don’t let us stay stagnant lacking growth – but let us move for you, use us Lord, teach us to pick up our mats and pack up our tents and move in faith and follow you. Lord, we are ready. Move in us, go with us as you direct our path. In Jesus name, amen.
Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
