The Town Begged For The Wrong Thing

Happy Monday! I’m praying all God’s best for you today. Stay focused on the Lord. He has it all under control. Today, I will cover six (6) verses, but it is one section, about Jesus showing up and casting out. Do you need Jesus to show up and cast somethings out of your life that have been destructive or is preventing you from flourishing in Christian walk? Enjoy today’s devotion.

“28 When Jesus arrived on the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gadarenes, two men who were possessed by demons met him. They came out of the tombs and were so violent that no one could go through that area.

29 They began screaming at him, “Why are you interfering with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time?”

30 There happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding in the distance. 31 So the demons begged, “If you cast us out, send us into that herd of pigs.”

32 “All right, go!” Jesus commanded them. So the demons came out of the men and entered the pigs, and the whole herd plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned in the water.

33 The herdsmen fled to the nearby town, telling everyone what happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 Then the entire town came out to meet Jesus, but they begged him to go away and leave them alone.” Matthew 8:28-34 NLT

Jesus performed miracles. He casted out demons. Yes, He is more powerful than demons. The demons feared Jesus and obeyed. Yet, “the entire town came out to meet Him and they begged him to go away and leave them alone.”

What are you begging Jesus/God to do? _______

Sometimes we are just like that crowd. Jesus/God performs miracles in our lives. He changes our circumstances. He shows us that He is more powerful than anything on earth or in the heavens. However, when we don’t understand or are fearful of an outcome,  we turn away from God or His direction or the Holy Spirits guidance leaving the door open for the enemy to sow doubt,  disorder, disobedience, fear and destruction. Brothers and sisters, don’t live in fear, don’t turn back to comfortable things, and don’t turn away when you don’t understand what God is doing. Even when it hurts, trust His plan, trust His purpose for your life and let Him transform you into who He has called you to be. Let Him change your situation. Let us not be so accustom to crazy or unrest that we forget there is a deliverer. Keep praying

Father God, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ to save us from our sins and reconciling us back to you. Lord, forgive us for the times when we turned away from you. Lord, restore our hearts and minds back to you. Lord, help us to focus our attention on the things that concern you. Lord, equip us with your word so that you can change us. Breathe into us new life. Teach us more about you every day.  Lord, we lift up our families, friends and neighbors to you. Lord, we lift up the doctor’s reports to you. Lord, we lift up our bosses, our co-workers, teacher’s and students to you today. Lord, work mightily in their lives, transform their hearts and glorify your name. Lord, water the spiritual seeds that were planted over the weekend. Continue to let your word take root, deep root and flourish in our lives. Lord, remove things from our lives that do not please you (e.g., rage, addiction, lies, gossip, etc.), deliver us. Lord, help us to lean into you. Speak to us. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep seeking! Keep praying! Keep trusting!

These verses break my heart every time I read them. To think that the Living Christ was there in their midst and they were so afraid that they asked Him to leave! What blessings they missed because of their fear. I pray that all who read this would seek His blessings and that we would all seek MORE of Him!
