You Are One of the Hundred

Good morning it’s Wednesday! Today’s devotion concludes Psalm 119. The Psalmist certainly poured out his heart to the Lord in this Psalm. Reading it inspired me and enhanced my personal walk. In the Psalm, David (the Psalmist of 119) the man after God’s own heart struggled, waited on the Lord, was at times fearful, other times bold, yet he remained faithful to the Lord. David received a promise that he would be king and he became king, yet there were many trials he faced. As I reflected on David’s heart toward God, it was a great reminder that in my trials I can be confident as I call upon the name of the Lord and faithfully await for his direction, trust his protection and believe he will deliver/rescue me. Enjoy the final verses of Psalm 119.

169 Lord, listen to my cry;
    give me the discerning mind you promised.
170 Listen to my prayer;
    rescue me as you promised.
171 Let praise flow from my lips,
    for you have taught me your decrees.
172 Let my tongue sing about your word,
    for all your commands are right.
173 Give me a helping hand,
    for I have chosen to follow your commandments.
174 Lord, I have longed for your rescue,
    and your instructions are my delight.
175 Let me live so I can praise you,
    and may your regulations help me.
176 I have wandered away like a lost sheep;
    come and find mefor I have not forgotten your commands.” Psalm 119:169-176 NLT

What did you gain from reading Psalm 119?

What was/is your favorite verse in Psalm 119?

The verse that stood out to me today is: “I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands.” (v.176) This is such a great cry-out to the Lord. It reminds me of the Lord’s faithfulness to leave the ninety-nine sheep to search for one. Do you remember what happened? Here’s Matthew 18:12-14 to help you remember the Parable of the Lost Sheep:

12 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? 13 And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! 14 In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.”

Father God thank you for your goodness and love toward us. Lord, thank you for hearing our cry for help. Lord, forgive us when we stray away from you – come find us. Keep our hearts and ears close to you. Lord, give us a discerning mind to follow your instructions. Lord, help us to search your word to gain understanding, to grow our relationship with you and live accordingly.  Lord, help us to desire you more than anything else. Continue to change us and use us for your purposes. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
