Pursue Us

Happy Friday! Happy Early Veteran’s Day to all the military veterans.

Wednesday we read about the struggle with living for our sinful nature and being led by the Holy Spirit. Thursday we read a list (from the Bible) that gave us examples of our sinful nature and a spirit led life. Today we learn about forgiveness at the cross.

“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.” Galatians 5:24-26 NLT

Brothers and sisters when we live in a world that is prone to sin, it is easy to begin to accept it as the norm. We begin to justify sin, we deny the direction to go and sin no more, yet we ask for forgiveness everyday because we can  – but sometimes it’s because we refuse to turn away from the sin that entraps/enslaves us.

The Bible says But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” 1 John 1:7-9 NLT.

What are we to do? Do we continue to live in denial – bound to our own fears of what others would think or what we would need to give up or stop. Or do we look at the examples of a spirit led life – a life that produces “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” and ask God to forgive our sins and help us to live a spirit led and fruitful life?

Which choice will you make?  _______

Father God,  you are all knowing and forgiving. Lord, we thank you for dying on the cross for our sins. We thank you for pursuing us and giving us an opportunity to have a relationship with you.  Lord, you know the sins we struggle with. Lord, you know our desire to please and follow you. Lord, help us with our fears that are keeping us from living a Christ/Spirit filled life. Lord, wherever we are weak, make us strong in you. Wherever we fill trapped, release us Lord – set us free. Lord, don’t relent, continue to pursue and change us to be more like you. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
