Happy Wednesday! From today through Friday we will cover Galatians 5:16-26 NLT. These are powerful verses so stay tuned as we discuss the two forces that are fighting against each other.
“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.” Galatians 5:16-18 NLT
Do you remember watching television shows or cartoons that depicted an individual/character in a delima who had to make an ethical decision? You could see the person was struggling between making the right choice or doing what they wanted to do. There was usually an angel sitting on one shoulder offering advice – to do what was right and a devil sitting on the other shoulder encouraging the individual/character to do what would “make them feel better”.
I believe these verses clearly display that struggle. We desire to be led by the Holy Spirit and seek to do what the Lord desires, however there is a force of wills that influence our decision to do what we want instead of following the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Today I want to challenge you to look at the decisions you are making or need to make.
- Pray over those decisions.
- Ask the Lord to give you wisdom and the will to do what is pleasing to Him.
While it may be difficult, I guarantee you that the freedom you feel after you let go of the things that are binding you…you will begin to live.
Father God, we come to you today because you love us and we need you. Lord, we are so entrenched with the things going on around us that we sometimes forget how powerful you are. Lord, the great I AM, wonderful counselor, Redemeer, Savior, King of kings and Lord of lords we ask today in your might name that you begin to break the binds/chains that hinder our walk and diminish our testimony of how great and wonderful you are. Lord, help us to stand firm on your word. Speak into our hearts and minds and pour out your truth and will into our lives. Help us to see our true character and begin to chip away our attitudes, deceitfulness, anger, bitterness and wills that do not please you. Guide us Lord. Be with us today as we surrender our will to yours. Be with our families and begin to transform them. Help them to see your love and greatness. Lord, be with those who are ill – suffering from depression, heartbreak, cancer, post traumatic stress disorder, etc., – heal them Lord. In Jesus name, Amen!
Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
